Sexual harassment is WRONG.

A very special and dear friend of mine confided to me today that she is being sexually harassed at her school. Two people have been making unwanted sexual advances, remarks and requests toward her.

THIS IS NOT OKAY.

It isNEVER okay to be the victim of actions like these, and it is ABSOLUTELY NEVER OKAY to act like this towards any person at all, even if they or you are joking. Sexual harassment is all about power. They want power over their victims and it is VERY dangerous to let people like this continue to harrass other people. They WILL move on to other people and they could possibly move on to molest, rape or even KILL someone. These people NEED to be reported RIGHT AWAY so they will not hurt anyone else.

If you or someone you know is being sexually harassed, whether it’s at school, at home, at work, wherever it is, you need to tell someone you trust: parents, a teacher, your supervisor/boss, a close friend, or a relative. Then you need to tell the police.

It’s okay to be scared. The harasser might threaten the victim, telling them that they will hurt/rape/kill the victim if they tell. THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN IF YOU TELL THE POLICE. The police will NOT allow the harasser anywhere NEAR the victim; another friend of mine who has been abused said that her abuser never left the police station and went straight to jail. Sexual harassment is a serious crime and it can seriously scar someone, even if it’s “just a joke.”

Sexual harassment is NOT a joke and should NOT be treated as such. It can happen to ANYONE. ANYONE can do it to you or your loved ones. It doesn’t matter if the harasser OR victim is underage, adult, male, female, heterosexual, homosexual, transsexual—males can even be sexually harassed by females. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO IT IS. It’s STILL wrong no matter WHO does it.

Victims of sexual harassment, please hear me out. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. You did nothing wrong. It’s normal and okay to feel scared, but you CAN get help before you seriously get hurt. It’s never too late to get help.
